In mid-July, the Portuarios area in Gijón will once again transform into a track for unusual speed competitions. The IV Descenso de Inercia Portuarios, a stage of the Spanish Cup and Asturias Cup for gravity-powered racing cars, will take place here.
Participants will descend the city streets in homemade gravity-powered vehicles that accelerate solely by the force of gravity. Spectators can expect fast runs, spectacular turns, unusual vehicle designs, and the atmosphere of a true motorsport celebration.

What is Descenso de Inercia?
These are competitions in which vehicles have no engine. Drivers rely solely on gravity, and speed and results depend on the vehicle’s design, aerodynamics, and driving skill.
Many carrioles are handmade over several months, making each vehicle unique.
If you are in Gijón on July 17 or 18, this is a great opportunity to see unusual races that combine engineering imagination, speed, and spectacle.
